Start with the whole route

A three-year bachelor, an experience year followed by a bachelor, and admission with transferred credits are different budgets. This comparison assumes entry at the beginning, without a scholarship. It uses the 2027 SEG, Glion and Les Roches schedules and IMI’s current published prices, held constant for calculation; future increases need a separate allowance. All amounts below are CHF.

HIM, César Ritz and SHMS are part of SEG; Glion and Les Roches belong to Sommet Education. They offer different programmes. Culinary Arts Academy is a separate culinary/food-service choice, with listed 2027 whole-course charges of about CHF 176,200.

What accommodation does the table include?

  • IMI: three 22-week academic periods, each with tuition 33,000, registration 2,000, standard twin room 3,000 and full meals 2,950: total 122,850. A single room adds the relevant difference.
  • The SEG totals follow each complete bachelor fee schedule. Adding meals already included in the schedule would count them twice.
  • Glion and Les Roches list accommodation only for some teaching periods. The next model adds two later study periods of housing; internship living costs are deducted separately from internship earnings.
  • Les Roches uses the final Launch Your Career option. Remaining on campus for Academic Deep Dive adds academic and living costs.
  • Glion’s meal figures are the listed prepaid amounts; Les Roches also has meal arrangements for later off-campus study. Upgrades, extra meals and holiday stays require further budgeting.

Use internship savings, not gross pay

For eligible Swiss hospitality internships covered by Article 11 of the sector collective agreement, the 2027 minimum is CHF 2,404 gross monthly. Six fully paid months produce 14,424 gross; twelve produce 28,848. Other countries and later internship years require their own applicable contract and rates.

1,80028,84821,6007,248
2,10028,84825,2003,648

The central example retains CHF 7,248. Do not deduct employer-provided room and meals twice if they are already taken from pay. A qualifying thirteenth salary is additional under the contract and rules. Internship length and location must be replaced with the student’s actual arrangements.

A comparable planning model

We add two later housing periods at the 2027 reference room rates: 12,600 for Glion and 12,640 for Les Roches. Then we allow 5,000–10,000 per programme year for unlisted study-period spending, holidays, flights and insurance where relevant. These are planning inputs, not school quotations, and exclude living costs already deducted during internships.

The following model subtracts the same 7,248 retained over twelve paid internship months. Additional placements or longer professional phases need their own earnings and expenses.

Les Roches12,64020,000–40,000251,792–271,792

Family net cost = school charges + unlisted housing and living costs − awarded scholarships − net internship savings. Room selection, travel, holiday arrangements and placement location turn this model into a personal budget. LEP can first clarify entry credits and scholarship eligibility with the school.

Prepare the initial payment before future earnings arrive

For the 2027 opening stage, Glion’s listed items and application fee total about 55,875, plus a refundable 1,250 deposit. At Les Roches, the sum of the components is about 50,450, plus a refundable 1,000 deposit. A refundable deposit is cash to prepare rather than final consumption if its return conditions are met. Internship income arrives later.

IMI merits attention for academic learning and a lower cost entry point. SEG schools should be compared by business, hotel, design or culinary direction. Glion and Les Roches require a judgement about the courses, campuses and career resources the student will actually use. More spending should correspond to a concrete benefit.
