Similar grades can call for different schools

When parents describe a child as quiet or not yet independent, I ask what that means in practice. Do they finish tasks? Ask for help with difficult work? Does device use interfere with sleep or study?

These answers shape LEP’s selection. Two students of the same age may need very different language, classroom and residential arrangements.

Connect our visits with the student

At Chantemerle, the small, welcoming setting and residential environment made a strong impression on me. For a first-time boarder, LEP can explore that setting while discussing the actual year group, curriculum and support. Read our Chantemerle visit record.

At Saint-Charles, our visit provides context for discussing courses, residence, sports and riding. An existing interest becomes part of the learning-and-living comparison, followed by questions about the student’s practical timetable. See our Saint-Charles guide.

Eerde adds an English-medium boarding route in the Netherlands. LEP examines current studies, English and the intended entry stage before clarifying accommodation and holidays.

Translate “individual attention” into an answer

We organise the situations in which the student needs help, then discuss subject-language support, missed work, settling into the residence and joining activities with the relevant school.

A small school may not offer every required subject combination. Extensive activities may still conflict with a particular timetable. Our role is to compare those details for the same child and explain the choices to the family.

Include daily concerns in the selection

Phone concerns lead to questions about evening study, overnight and weekend rules. Social concerns lead to the actual year group, peers and newcomer support. Preparation at home then follows the gaps identified in the school discussion.

For a child who may prefer household life after lessons, LEP can also consider a Luxembourg day school and host family, connecting admission and agreed local coordination.

Send age, curriculum, English level, two everyday difficulties and whether parents will relocate. We use that brief to develop a reasoned shortlist and continue the school and application process. Explore LEP family services.
