A clear academic route
St George’s follows the British curriculum, with IGCSE, A Level and BTEC options in the secondary years. For a pupil already in British education, year placement, subject choices and examination timing are central. A pupil joining from another system needs a careful comparison of what they have already studied.
My personal impression is of a school that takes academic progress seriously. It is also visibly attentive to safety: during my visits, visitors’ arrival and departure were recorded.
Direct discussion with the principal makes a difference
In one urgent case, the principal responded on the day I contacted her. Rather than simply equating the child’s existing grade with a British year, she pointed out that the apparent equivalent was a major examination year and suggested examining a more suitable placement. That is the value of being able to discuss teaching and resources with school leadership.
A trial before the family decides
St George’s has offered a three-day free trial for students working with LEP. We coordinate the dates and practical arrangements with the school, so the child can experience lessons and the family can assess the fit.
In discussions about Chinese pupils, the principal and admissions staff spoke positively about the discipline, achievement and motivation they had encountered. They discussed additional language support and a learning buddy. The principal has lived in China. These are specific conversations and arrangements relevant to those families, not assumptions about every applicant’s background.
Responsive does not mean automatic admission
Our nine-day case ran from the family’s paid engagement on 7 September to the school’s scheduled start on 16 September. The child attended trial days on 10 and 11 September. Even while I pressed for an offer, admissions required teachers’ feedback, a collective review and complete local arrangements before deciding. The offer on 14 September explicitly sought continuity in the child’s education.
That combination is why I value this relationship: the school took a child’s urgent need seriously while maintaining its standards. In cases involving parents abroad, St George’s has been the most constructive and responsive of the three schools in my own work.
Arrange the local home alongside the school
St George’s is a day school. If parents are not living in Luxembourg, admission does not include accommodation. LEP can help match a host family, clarify responsibilities and accompany the relevant local meetings. We organise school visits each quarter; contact us for the current arrangements and local professional accompaniment. Luxembourg school and local support services are paid.
