We visited École Lémania in Lausanne on a rainy day during the local school holiday. The reception was courteous and our conversation went smoothly. My clearest impression was of a school that draws on city resources, with a different arrangement of teaching and boarding space from a large independent campus outside town.
What a central Lausanne location means for daily life
The teaching and accommodation areas we saw were concentrated within buildings, with classrooms on lower floors and boarding above. Some facilities felt older, and the urban location limits the space available on campus.
The atmosphere I encountered felt oriented towards older pupils and day-school life. For a family wanting a teenager to engage gradually with city living, this deserves discussion. A younger child who needs a large residential setting and extensive grounds may have different priorities.
Sport and music through community resources
During the visit, we learned that sports activities use shared community facilities and that music and other activities draw on city resources. On-site sports space is comparatively limited.
If my main criteria were campus grounds, accommodation and facilities owned by the school, I would prefer the conditions I previously saw at Chantemerle and Saint-Charles. I would assess Lémania through its combination of Lausanne location, a French-speaking environment and an English IB route. LEP asks how the individual child will study, exercise and spend an ordinary day, then compares those arrangements with family priorities.
English IB and the preparatory years
The published pathway comprises Grade 9 and Grade 10 preparation, followed by the two-year IB Diploma in Grades 11 and 12. The starting point depends on age, current school year, English academic writing, subjects already studied and potential university interests.
A student moving from a national curriculum may need time to develop subject-specific expression and argument in English. Someone already studying an international programme may be ready for a more focused subject and transfer assessment. LEP assembles transcripts and curriculum information for the school, rather than treating year numbers as automatically equivalent.
City boarding and increasing independence
The boarding information primarily addresses pupils aged 15 and above, with different room types and five- or seven-day options. LEP checks the birthday, year group and support requirements for any younger applicant.
I see this urban setting as an option for teenagers interested in local life and learning to manage their time. If parents live abroad, weekends, outings, contact with teachers, holidays and communication when difficulties arise need to be organised together. LEP brings the child’s level of independence and the family’s expectations into that discussion.
2026/27 annual tuition and seven-day board
The published IB admissions schedule lists standard twin-room seven-day board at CHF 39,220. Adding the relevant annual tuition gives an initial comparison:
| Stage | Annual tuition (CHF) | Seven-day standard twin-room board (CHF) | Combined annual amount (CHF) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grade 9 preparation | 25,000 | 39,220 | 64,220 |
| Grade 10 preparation | 28,000 | 39,220 | 67,220 |
| IB Diploma, per school year | 36,000 | 39,220 | 75,220 |
These figures relate to one school year. The school describes tuition and textbooks, the selected room, full board, laundry, cleaning, homework assistance and some weekend activities within its listed provision. The year group and eligibility for boarding must fit the individual application.
Room choices can materially change the amount. Insurance, examinations, additional learning support, holidays and personal spending should be entered in the student-specific budget. LEP obtains the relevant breakdown and compares the commitment needed to complete the planned studies.
Connect IB subjects with future university choices
An IB plan involves subject combinations, languages and research writing. If a degree direction is already clear, we work backwards from the likely mathematics, science or other subject requirements, then check the school’s actual options. A student still exploring should retain sensible flexibility.
LEP looks at the strongest and weakest parts of the current school profile, where transition support is needed and which interests can develop further. A suitable school is one where the child can engage with the learning demands and gradually build direction.
Where Lémania fits in a Swiss shortlist
I would include it for families considering English IB, interested in Lausanne city life and ready to discuss boarding arrangements carefully. City schools, smaller historic campuses and different curricula offer distinct experiences. We start with the child’s academic entry point, languages and daily support, then compare the budget on a consistent basis.
LEP has visited the school and can turn those questions into a focused shortlist rather than leaving parents with a long collection of school names.
Apply to École Lémania and arrange a visit through LEP
LEP discusses preparatory or IB entry, boarding age, room type, meal coverage and the complete annual budget. We can arrange a visit so the family can see the teaching, accommodation and nearby activities and judge whether a city campus suits the child.
LEP provides school-fit assessment, school liaison, application assistance and family campus-visit bookings. Schools pay for this application support; students and parents pay no LEP service fee for it.
Please share the child’s age, school year, curriculum, recent results, English and French, intended start date and annual budget. WhatsApp · contact@luxedupartners.lu. Meet James Liu and learn about LEP’s European local support →
